Nail mycosis, or onychomycosis, is a fungal infection that can affect one or several fingernails or toenails. Often caused by fungi, it is promoted by various factors, such as diabetes, overlapping toes, hematomas caused by sports activities, or wearing poorly ventilated shoes.

Mycosis generally affects the big toe and is characterized by a thickened, damaged, peeling, and yellowish nail with white stains and – in rare cases – black stains. Embarrassing and unsightly, this condition is also contagious and likely to cause complications: it can spread to the other toes or the skin, be transmitted to other people, cause pain while walking or putting on shoes, and lead to infections. As nail mycosis doesn’t go away on its own, you should consult a podiatrist immediately if you are afflicted by it.

Put an end

to nail mycosis

However, a nail fungus treatment doesn’t necessarily solve the aesthetic problem. The unsightly results of mycosis can be multiple: nails that are deformed or discoloured or that have white or black marks.

For aesthetic purposes, at the PiedRéseau Villeray Podiatric Clinic, we use the Lunula Laser, a laser treatment for nail mycosis that gives a beautiful look back to the foot. Indeed, the use of this laser technology makes it possible to regain clear, healthy nails. This nail laser treatment is totally painless and passes through the nails without damaging them or the surrounding skin.
